Circa 1962 Letter Received from Joe DiMaggio
A three-page note; handwritten by the ballplayer in blue ballpoint ink on "Hotel Lexington" [in NYC] letterhead undated bur likely 1962 based on a few clues addressed to "Dearest " DiMaggio mainlly discusses his troubled son Joe Jr. when he writes "You have been quite a help to / me in so much as discussing Joe's affairs. / After talking to you today I called him / to tell him what I planned to do / which I did -- sent him the two / thousand dollars to pay for his car " Joe continues on with concern about Marilyn's "picture deal" and with her health which seem to indicate she's working on her last film "Something's Got to Give " though he doesn't spell it out specifically he ends with a somewhat cryptic sentiment of "Now I hope that the / happiness we all seek comes to you soon / so that friends who give a damn / will relish right along with you " signing off with "My love Joe" -- though we didn't need proof this is proof that Joe was always looking out for Marilyn even years after their divorce.
