This is an original purple, magenta plaid two-piece suit from the collection of Boy George from 1979, worn on the BBC program Something Else, as well as photographed worn at Club Blitz. The custom-made suit was made by Dinah O'Dowd Boy George's mother. 

A two-piece wool tartan plaid blazer and pants made by Dinah O'Dowd. The blazer features a folded collar with a shawl lapel, worn open, with two patch pockets at the front hips paired with high-waist pants with jodhpur style legs that tapper in at the midcalf to the ankle, no label present. 

Boy George was 18 years old when he appeared on the program speaking about clothing, dressing up, and identifying as a Punk, but choosing to abstain from conflict. During the debate, Boy George weighed in on how it's a choice to engage in conflict that it is best to walk away than fight. When asked by the host, about his appearance he says, “It's not what you wear, it's what's inside your head.” Boy George's style has always been an extension of his character. His point during the program is that clothing is a physical exhibition of one's person, but the morality is based on one's mind and insight. Boy George remembers collaborating with his mom on outfits in the late 70s, saying, “my mum eventually sort of came on side with what I was doing, and it was so beautiful, you know […] she was a seamstress. She was really talented at making clothes, but I was like, go off the grid.”
