This is a cotton button-up mid-length shirt from the collection of Boy George worn on the cover of Rolling Stone November 10, 1983. Boy George performed wearing this shirt on The Tube (1982-1987), a British television show featuring live performances. Culture Club performed on June 24, 1983, including hits, “Church of a Poison Mind,” “Black Money,” and “It's A Miracle.” 

A Dexter Wong custom design dress-shirt reaches mid-length, composed of cotton with patterned appliques, cut stripes with top stitching, and a slit located at the center back of the shirt tail. There is no label present. The design is meant to be oversized, dropped shoulders and loose silhouette for a free-flowing garment Boy George was known for wearing. 

Boy George during his sit-down interview with Julien's Auction explains the silhouette and the concept for this style of costume worn in the early, mid-eighties, saying, “These sort of costumes, there were so many things going on. You know why I wore them? The shape. It was kind of like it wasn't conscious, but it was androgynous. […] and it was kind of hiding in a way, you know, just kind of creating this silhouette that was quite protective.”
