1987 “Let It Be” Recording Video Coca-Cola Pin Cap (With Images)
This is a black wool newsboy embellished with pins, primarily Coca-Cola, from the collection of Boy George.
This hat was worn during the making, recording of the Ferry Aide “Let It Be" re-recording, which included Paul McCartney, Boy George, amongst other UK musicians in following the Zeebrugge Disaster; resulting in 193 causalities of passengers and crew when the ferry MS Herald of Free Enterprise capsized. Boy George wore the hat for the making of the recording.
The newsboy cap is composed of black wool decorated with Coca-Cola, Beatles, Elvis, and flag pins. The interior is lined with a synthetic fabric with a “MADE IN ENGLAND” tag, marked a size L.
Boy George was photographed on March 27th, 1987, wearing this hat with the late model and singer Nick Kamen, a close friend, fellow ’80s pop culture icon, and longtime collaborator. The two first met as teenagers in London’s punk scene and remained close for decades, sharing both a personal friendship and creative partnership until Kamen’s passing in 2021. Click here for image.
