New World Pictures, 1979. An 8-inch reel of 35mm Kodak film stock with 1977 date codes housed on a plastic core, containing footage of a scene from David Cronenberg’s classic horror film The Brood.The first few feet of the reel was inspected and found to contain what is apparently unused footage depicting the early therapy session between Nola (Samantha Eggar) and Dr. Raglan (Oliver Reed), where Nola tells him “[Frank] thinks I am trying to harm our little girl, and I know that he's thinking of a way to take her away.”The footage begins with a shot of a clapperboard which reads, “The Brood / Scene 33, Slate 479 / Take 1…Director D. Cronenberg / Cameraman M. Irwin / D/18-12-1978 / Produced by C. Heroux.”Together with an additional film reel mounted with magnetic audio strips, in deteriorated condition.Both reels are housed in cannisters labeled, “Bellevue Pathé Limited” in Toronto, Canada. One cannister has masking tape across the front labeled in felt-tip pen: “THE BROOD - SC. 33 - OUTTAKE?” And both cans are lined with pages from a January 7, 1979 issue of The Sunday Sun from Toronto.Please note: Both reels smell strongly of vinegar. The image reel exhibits cyan color fading. The audio reel is extremely brittle, but the audio tape itself may be salvageable.
