A pair of cufflinks, single-link designed as a polished 14k gold rectangle, the versos inscribed, “TO HARRY WITH ALL” and “MY LUV JULIE” and dated 1954, ⅝ x ¾ inches, 23.7 grams, from his second wife Julie Robinson.
Belafonte first met Robinson when she came to perform at the New School, where he was a student, with the Katherine Dunham Dancers. They connected again when Julie visited her boyfriend Marlon Brando on the back lot of 20th Century Fox where Brando was playing Napoleon in Desiree (20th Century Fox, 1954) and Belafonte was starring in Carmen Jones (20th Century Fox, 1954). Unable to take her to lunch, Brando asked Belafonte to pinch hit. They immediately had a strong connection and were married from 1957 to 2004.
