‘Music Icons’ Opens for Bidding, Legendary Artifacts Tour World Stage

The 'Music Icons' auction offers a chance to own iconic music memorabilia, including instruments and stage wear from legends like Kurt Cobain and Eric Clapton, with exhibitions in London and New York before the live auction on May 30th and 31st.

Our highly anticipated "Music Icons" auction is now open for bidding. From now through May 31st, rock and roll aficionados, pop culture pilgrims, and music history buffs can immerse themselves in a treasure trove of iconic instruments, show-stopping stage wear, rare gear, and personal relics from the pantheon of music legends. This auction is a vibrant celebration of the sounds and styles that have shaped generations.

The digital doors are wide open providing a front-row seat to an extraordinary collection of music royalty. Before these coveted pieces go under the hammer live from the Hard Rock Cafe® in New York City on May 30th and 31st, a select preview of these historic artifacts is embarking on a world tour, offering fans a tangible connection to their musical heroes.

A Glimpse of Glory: The Exhibition Timeline

For those in the UK, the first stop on this legendary journey is none other than the iconic Hard Rock Cafe® in Piccadilly Circus, London. From Friday, May 9th, through Wednesday, May 14th, you'll have the exclusive opportunity to witness a curated selection of the "Music Icons" highlights firsthand. Stand before the instruments that crafted timeless melodies, and gaze upon the very garments that defined an artist's persona in an intimate encounter with music history. The doors are open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and admission is free – a true gift to music lovers.

Following its star turn in London, the exhibition will then cross the Atlantic, making its way to the vibrant heart of New York City. From Wednesday, May 21st, through Saturday, May 31st, the Hard Rock Cafe® in Times Square will play host to these remarkable artifacts. This provides another incredible chance for fans and collectors to get up close and personal with the items before the live auction commences. Exhibition will be open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., free for all to experience.

Kurt Cobain Photo Matched Studio Played Hilversum Session Takamine Acoustic Guitar, Natural

A 1989 Takamine FP360SC (LH) acoustic electric guitar, serial #89010543, in natural gloss finish. This Takamine acoustic guitar was played by Kurt Cobain of Nirvana during a recording session which took place on November 25th, 1991 in Hilversum, North Holland, Netherlands prior to the band’s performance at Paradiso that same evening. The guitar’s unique wood grain has been matched to photographs taken at the studio by Michel Linssen which can be seen here.

The session, which was a joint effort between Dutch radio stations VPRO and VARA, was held at Hilversum Studios. The band meandered through three songs including Leadbelly’s “Where Did You Sleep Last Night?” and a cover of “Here She Comes Now” by The Velvet Underground; the unnamed third song would come to be known as “Horrified.” Accounts of how long the session lasted seem to vary, however only around 20 minutes of recorded material seems to have surfaced, which can be heard here.

Because the band’s equipment was already being set up for that evening’s concert, all of the gear used for the session was backline rental equipment including the drums, bass and bass amp, and this Takamine acoustic guitar, which still has its H.V.K. Music (Herman Van Keeken) sticker affixed to the back of the headstock.

The Takamine FP360SC was made in Japan and is built in left-handed orientation. It features a 25.5” scale length mahogany neck with a bound 20 fret rosewood fretboard with dot inlays, six chrome plated Takamine branded tuners, and a mother of pearl Takamine logo inlay on the headstock. The body wears a solid spruce top, rosewood back and sides, multi-ply binding, a black plastic pickguard, and a rosewood bridge with a bone saddle, dot inlays, and white bridge pins. The guitar is finished in natural gloss and equipped with Takamine electronics. Includes hardshell case.

Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic Studio Played Hilversum Session 1989 Warwick Dolphin Pro I Electric Bass Guitar, Natural Oil Finish

A 1989 Warwick Dolphin Pro I four string electric bass, serial #G083 89, in satin natural finish. This bass was used by Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic of Nirvana during a recording session which took place on November 25th, 1991 in Hilversum, North Holland, Netherlands prior to the band’s performance at Paradiso that same evening. The instrument’s unique wood grain has been matched to photographs taken at the studio, one of which became the cover of Rolling Stone Argentina #185.

The session, which was a joint effort between Dutch radio stations VPRO and VARA, was held at Hilversum Studios. The equipment for the session was backline rental gear including the Warwick bass, which still has its Music Plant inventory stickers affixed to the headstock and back of the body, as well as a sticker for H.V.K. Music, likely Herman Van Keeken Music, also located in Hilversum. The band used backline equipment that day as their own was already being set up for that evening’s concert.

The Warwick Dolphin Pro I was made in West Germany and features a 34” scale length seven piece Wenge and Zebrano neck with thru-body construction, a 26 fret Wenge fretboard, bell brass frets, mother of pearl dolphin position marker inlays, an abalone W inlay at the headstock, four gold plated Warwick tuners, and an adjustable brass nut. The ergonomically contoured body is made of Bioré, a rare African Rosewood, with an oil finish, a gold plated two piece bridge and tailpiece, gold plated knobs, and gold plated Schaller strap lock buttons. The bass is equipped with Bartolini J and MM pickups, a concentric pot for master volume and pickup blend, plus another concentric pot for the active 2-band Treble and Bass EQ, both push-pull for coil splitting each pickup (battery required).

Includes soft case plus an orange Warwick flight case with Music Plant logo and inventory stickers, and two additional soft bags inside the case for protection. Also includes the yellow, black, and brown Fender strap that can be seen in the photos of Krist playing the bass at the aforementioned session.

2013 Martin Eric Clapton Crossroads 000-45ECB Limited Edition Acoustic Guitar, Natural

A 2013 Martin Eric Clapton Crossroads 000-45ECB Limited Edition acoustic guitar, serial #1680004, in natural finish. One out of a very limited number of such instruments made with Brazilian rosewood back and sides, and with an interior label signed by Eric Clapton himself alongside C.F. Martin IV. It features a 24.9” scale length mahogany neck with a bound 20 fret ebony fretboard inlaid with abalone Crossroads emblems and 45 style position markers as well as Eric Clapton’s signature, also inlaid in abalone. The headstock has a bound rosewood overlay with Martin logo inlays of abalone and six gold plated Waverly tuners. The body has Brazilian rosewood back and sides and an Adirondack spruce top, multi-ply binding throughout with abalone purfling, an abalone rosette, an ebony bridge with Crossroads emblem inlays, and a plastic tortoise shell pickguard. The guitar includes original Martin Custom Shop case with Crossroads case shroud, and store hang tags.

Fender Custom Shop Frankenstein Stratocaster Limited Edition, Red with White and Black Stripes

A 2007 Fender Custom Shop Eddie Van Halen limited edition Frankenstein Replica Guitar in red finish with black and white stripes. A painstakingly accurate recreation of Eddie Van Halen’s legendary guitar made by Fender’s Master Builders, this instrument replicate every scratch, ding, and modification Eddie made to his original iconic instrument as part of a limited run of 300.

It features a 25.5” scale length maple neck with black dot inlays, 21 jumbo frets, a chrome plated locking nut, six chrome plated Schaller tuners, and a heavily aged oil finish on the neck. The ash body features the road worn striped paint job of the original along with chiseled-out pickup routs, a 1971 quarter mounted behind the bridge, a strip of masking tape on the treble side of the body where he used to store spare picks, a cut down black three ply pickguard with a single Tone knob on the guitar’s master volume control, large eye hooks for strap buttons, truck reflectors affixed to the back of the body, an original Floyd Rose locking tremolo, and a Seymour Duncan Custom Shop humbucker along with a dummy neck pickup and a switch stuffed in the middle pickup rout. The guitar includes original Van Halen branded Anvil flight case and the original COA signed by EVH himself, Frankenstein Replica brochure, and the tremolo arm for the guitar’s Floyd Rose vibrato.

Noel Gallagher's Photo-Matched Owned and Autographed Suzuki Hummingbird Guitar Played Backstage in Amsterdam 2009, Cherry Sunburst

A photo-matched Grand-Suzuki Hummingbird guitar, serial #91008, used and owned by Noel Gallagher during his time in iconic British band Oasis. This guitar was originally obtained from Gallagher's personal collection and was used to warm up and jam backstage. Wear near the sound hole and patterns on the pickguard can be matched to a Mick Hutson photograph of Gallagher holding the guitar backstage at an Oasis concert in Amsterdam on 21st January 2009. (Click HERE to view the photo) The guitar is signed by Noel Gallagher on the back of the headstock in silver felt tip pen.

This Grand-Suzuki W-65H acoustic guitar is made in Japan and a replica of a Gibson Hummingbird. It features a 25.5” scale length Nyatoh neck with a bound 20 fret rosewood neck with block inlays, six chrome plated tuners, and a tortoise shell truss rod cover. The body has cherry finished Nyatoh back and sides with a sunburst finished laminate spruce top, a rosewood bridge with adjustable saddle, double binding, and a tortoise shell plastic pickguard with floral hummingbird motif. The guitar includes a black hardshell case with black interior with tape on the side inscribed “Suzuki Not Use For Show” and tape on the lower bout side of the case which reads “SN - 91008 / Grand Suzuki Acoustic Cherry Burst Noel.”

Ronnie Wood Signed "Midnight Rambler" 2012 ESP Telecaster (with Photo)

A 2012 ESP Ronnie Wood signature Telecaster, serial #17027, in Metallic Blue finish. The guitar is signed by Wood in gold paint pen along with a handwritten lyric from the Rolling Stones song “Midnight Rambler” reading, “Have you heard about the midnight rambler?” The guitar is accompanied by photographs of Wood signing the guitar.

A 25.5” scale length one piece maple neck with 22 frets, black dot inlays, and vintage style tuning machines on a headstock adorned with a Ronnie Wood signature decal. The double-bound alder body is finished in metallic blue with a three ply parchment pickguard, a chrome six saddle bridge and a chrome control plate with chrome knobs. Two pickups, a humbucker in the neck and a Telecaster single coil in the bridge position, a three way switch, and master volume and tone controls. Includes black hardshell case with a red interior, a copy of a Certificate of Authenticity from Symbolic Collection signed and dated August 31 2012, and two photos what show Ronnie Wood holding and signing the guitar.

Drifting Cowboys Bob McNett Stage Played Gibson L-30 Archtop Guitar With Photo

A 1937-1943 Gibson L-30 archtop acoustic guitar used by Bob McNett during his time with Hank Williams’ backing ensemble The Drifting Cowboys. While the Cowboys first formed in 1937 with an ever-revolving lineup, McNett played guitar for Williams on The Louisiana Hayride in 1948 and joined the most famous version of the band at The Grand Ole Opry in 1949. McNett left the band in 1950 and Williams would disband The Drifting Cowboys in 1951.

Includes a photograph of Bob McNettposing with the guitar onstage at The Grand Ole Opry, a copy of a letter of authenticity from McNett’s widow Jeri, three copies of a letter of authenticity from fellow Drifting Cowboy Don Helms which states that McNett used the instrument with Hank Williams, and three copies of a front-and-back photo of the guitar.

This Gibson L-30 lacks a serial number or FON (Factory Order Number) which makes it difficult to pin down the exact year of production. It features a 24.75” scale length mahogany neck with a large V profile, a 19 fret Brazilian rosewood fretboard, pearl dot inlays, a tapered headstock with Gibson script logo, and two pairs of strip tuners. The body has maple back and sides with a carved spruce top finished in a brown mahogany sunburst. Single ply binding on the top and back, a Brazilian rosewood bridge, a nickel trapeze tailpiece, and a faux tortoise shell pickguard. Includes non-original black hardshell case with grey interior.

Taylor Hawkins and Dave Grohl Stage Played Concrete and Gold Tour Gretsch Drumkit

A one of a kind Gretsch drum kit custom made for the legendary late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. Hawkins joined Foo Fighters in 1997, and at the time of his death he had been with the band for 25 years. He appeared on every Foo Fighters album from 1999’s There Is Nothing Left to Lose to Medicine at Midnight (2021). Prior to Foo Fighters, Hawkins was the touring drummer for singer and songwriter Alanis Morissette.

This kit was stage played by Hawkins during the Concrete and Gold Tour in 2018 including the Australian leg From January 20th to February 3rd as well as the European leg during all of June. It was also played by singer Dave Grohl, a former drummer for Nirvana, during songs in the set where Taylor took centerstage, singing songs like "Under Pressure" by David Bowie and Queen as seen in the video linked below. The kit is easily identifiable in concert photos and footage thanks to its distinctive white and red design with black Japanese writing which translates to “Taylor Hawkins” as well as a drumhead featuring a black and white mashup of Taylor's face and The Bee Gees' Barry Gibb. The kit consists of seven drums: a kick, two floor toms, and four rack toms, as well as four black hardshell cases stenciled “Gruska” in white lettering and one soft case. No hardware included. The drums have sequential serial numbers ranging from 94602 to 94608.

Krist Novoselic Studio Played Hilversum Session Trace Elliot GP11 Mk V Bass Combo Amplifier

A c.1980s UK-made Trace Elliot GP11 Mk V 4x10” bass guitar combo amplifier. Used by Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic at a recording session which took place on November 25th, 1991 in Hilversum, North Holland, Netherlands prior to the band’s performance at Paradiso that same evening. Given the fact that Kurt Cobain played the bass at one point during the session, it’s conceivable that he also played through this amp. It appears in photos taken photographs taken during the studio session by Michael Linsson, which can be seen here, here, and here.

As the band’s equipment was already being set up for that evening’s concert, backline rental gear was used at the studio including this Trace Elliot bass amp. Novoselic can be seen playing a Warwick Dolphin bass plugged into this combo, identified by the HVK Music rental company sticker affixed to the stage right panel in full view. Two additional labels found under the Trace Elliot logo on the front panel as well as another on the stage left side are missing.

The Trace Elliot GP11 Mk V bass combo amplifier features two inputs, controls for Gain and Level, an EQ on-off as well as a mid cut switch, an 11 band graphic equalizer, Noise Reduction, an XLR out with a switch for pre or post EQ, line out, effects loop, and four 10” speakers behind a heavy duty metal grille.

A Remo Acousticon Quadra 14x8” steel snare drum (serial #36549), a Tama 18x16” floor tom (serial #15411182) in black, a Zildjian 18” Crash Ride cymbal, plus stands and cases all used by Nirvana Drummer Dave Grohl during a recording session which took place on November 25th, 1991 in Hilversum, North Holland, Netherlands prior to the band’s performance at Paradiso that same evening. The drums and cymbal have been matched to photographs taken at the studio here, here, and here.

The session, which was a joint effort between Dutch radio stations VPRO and VARA, was held at Hilversum Studios. The band meandered through three songs including Leadbelly’s “Where Did You Sleep Last Night?” and a cover of “Here She Comes Now” by The Velvet Underground; the unnamed third song would come to be known as “Horrified.” Dave Grohl can be seen playing this stripped-down drum kit during the session in photos taken by Michel Linssen which can be seen here.

As the band’s equipment was already being set up for that evening’s concert, backline rental gear was used at the studio including these drums, which still have their HVK Music and inventory stickers affixed to the hardware and the outside of the cases, as well as a Music Plant sticker on the underside of the Zildjian Crash Ride and on the cymbal bag. The Zildjian Crash Ride has “HVK” written in marker on the underside as well as “www.musicplant.nl" which was added later.

This lot includes the snare drum, floor tom, floor tom legs, and the snare stand from the Linssen photos, plus the Zildjian cymbal, cymbal stand, and cases with HVK logos that can be seen in the Linssen photos.

The Doors

Jim Morrison 1969 AKG D-1000 Microphone with Photos

An AKG D-1000 microphone, used by The Doors during live concerts and rehearsals. Together with three black and white photos, one of them being an original Edmund Teske photograph, of Jim Morrison using an AKG D-1000.

Jim Morrison can be seen using an AKG D-1000 in photographs from a few concerts including The Doors’ performances at the Gran Forum in Mexico City in June 1969, and in various photographs taken by Edmund Teske at The Doors Workshop in West Hollywood in 1969.

According to the consignor, the mic comes from Doors road manager Vince Treanor III, who built the group’s legendary stage amplification system. Treanor kept this and a number of other Doors microphones for more than 45 years, and in 2014, sold the complete collection to Recordmecca.

Accompanied by Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity, as well as a copy of Treanor’s letter of authenticity for all of the Doors microphones which, in part, reads: "The AKG D-1000 microphones were purchased by me using my own funds from Yale Radio in 1968.05 (May 1968) for drum amplification during Doors performances, replacing the EV-676 units. They have a narrow cardioid pattern and high rear rejection, excluding the sounds from the instrument and vocal amplifiers. On at least one occasion, based on photographic evidence, one AKG D-1000 was used by Jim Morrison in the rehearsal room at 8512 Santa Monica Boulevard. These were used until 1972.01 (January 1972) in Palm Springs. They were withdrawn from service in 1972.03 (March 1972.)"

In Treanor’s letter and various emails to the consignor, he explained in detail the provenance of this microphone. Treanor noted the microphones used by The Doors during his tenure were purchased “by me and with my own funds” at Yale Radio in Hollywood, CA. Treanor also owned the mic stands, sound mixers, and the telcom system used by The Doors. When The Doors weren’t working, Treanor occasionally did sound for other acts, and he wanted to be able to use the microphone system on these occasions. While the AKG D-1000’s were primarily used for drum amplification, photographs show they were used on occasion by Morrison for vocals. In addition, Treanor used the AKG’s to record various Doors concerts including "The Doors: Live In Vancouver 1970," released on the group’s Bright Midnight label.

Treanor was also a consultant to the Oliver Stone film The Doors (Carolco Pictures, 1991) and lent the production some Doors mics and mic stands, which were used during filming. He has lived in Southeast Asia for many years, but kept his equipment in storage in Los Angeles. When his storage was recently moved, The Doors microphones were located among his other possessions, and sold to Recordmecca.

Randy Bachman

1977 Vox AC30 Top Boost Signed Hank Marvin and Members of The Shadows

A 1977 Vox AC30 Top Boost electric guitar amplifier covered in black vinyl with gold piping and black, red, green, and silver diamond grille cloth. Owned and played by Randy Bachman of Bachman-Turner Overdrive and The Guess Who, formerly owned by Hank Marvin of famed English instrumental rock band The Shadows. Signed by Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch, and Brian Bennett on the back panel of the amp in gold ink. The grey control panel wears a label marked “Hank.”

According to Randy, this amp was acquired through Bryan Adams’ guitar technician, the late Lance Stadnyk. “He called me up and says, Bryan used AC30 amps and all the bands in England too, basically… I’ve taken this course with all the Vox technicians to re-tube and re-bias the amps… it’s fabulous.” Evidently Lance loved the course so much he decided to take it a second time, during which he discovered a room marked ‘Private’ with a pile of AC30s inside.

After some time had passed, Lance called again with some news. “One day, there’s a pink slip on that door that says ‘Open’ along with a note that reads, ‘Korg [owner of the Vox brand since 1992] has been bought by some multi-national thing, so everyone’s being fired. Take what you can for your salary.’ So I ran in and I got an AC50 head Cliff Richard used on the [Cliff Richard & The Shadows] reunion, I’ve got Brian May’s spare AC30 and I’ve got [Hank] Marvin’s AC30.”

“I’ve been a fan of the shadows forever, Hank Marvin,” Randy beams. “So I go to see the Shadow’s 50th reunion at the Hammersmith, I take the back of the amp. Hank signs it, the whole band signs it, Hank and the drummer [Brian Bennett] and Bruce Welch. Hank Marvin is THE god.”

This AC30 has no serial number info on the chassis and is missing its Vox plaque. It has 4x Mullard EL84 power tubes, with 5x 12ax7s and 1x 12au7 in the preamp. Grey top panel has two inputs for each of the three channels (a total of six), a two position Vib-Trem switch and a four position Speed switch, individual Volume controls for each of the Vib-Trem, Normal, and Brilliant channels, and an EQ section with Treble, Bass, and Cut controls. Complete with On/Off switch, indicator lamp, and fuse holder. There is a Direct Out on the back panel which is clipped out of the circuit. Equipped with a pair of 1977 (K) Celestion Black Back 25 watt 55hz speakers which appear to be original, a three prong power cable, and attached footswitch.

1996 Artist Signed Original Ames Bros Wembley Arena Concert Poster

An original, signed Ames Bros. concert poster for Pearl Jam's October 28 and 29, 1996 performances at Wembley Arena in London with guest The Fastbacks.

This limited edition (8/800) screen-printed poster features colorful artwork of great white sharks and a surfer and has been signed and numbered in pencil by the artist Coby Schultz. It is among the first concert posters created by the Ames Bros for Pearl Jam.

The Ames Bros (Barry Ament and Colby Schultz) have printed over 600 posters since opening their studio doors in 1994, for musical acts from Snoop Dogg to Neil Young, sports teams, major brands, and local businesses. But their most enduring creative partnership has been with Pearl Jam. Starting in 1994 with their Grammy-nominated album art and packaging for the band's third studio album, Vitalogy (Epic, 1994) and a handful of posters for their European tour in 1996, the Ames Bros have created nearly 300 posters for Pearl Jam. These screen-printed posters were all made by hand in small batches, with only a few hundred (or fewer) available for each show.

The Casbah Coffee Club, (also known as the Casbah Club) was a music venue in Liverpool, England, that operated from 1959 to 1962, and was owned by former Beatles member Pete Best's mother, Mona Best. Lennon, alongside "The Quarrymen" members Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Pete Shotton often performed there before forming The Beatles.

Robert Freeman is best known for shooting five consecutive album covers for The Beatles from 1963-1965 including With the Beatles, A Hard Days Night, Beatles For Sale, Help! and Rubber Soul. He also designed and photographed the covers for John Lennon's two books In His Own Write (Simon & Schuster, 1964) and A Spaniard in the Works (Simon & Schuster, 1965)

The Beatles RIAA Certified "Gold" Sales Award for "Revolver"

An RIAA Certified "Gold" sales award presented to The Beatles to commemorate the sale of more than $1,000,000 in sales for their 1966 album Revolver.

Released on August 5, 1966, Revolver charted at No.1 on the Billboard Top LPs chart, where it remained for six consecutive weeks. Revolver is now recognized as the birth of the band's psychedelic phase, coinciding with the counterculture movement of the 1960s, and pushed the boundaries of popular music. This was The Beatles ninth album issued with Capitol Records.

The Beatles "Yellow Submarine" Sneezing Heads Animation Cel

An original mounted animation cel from The Beatles film Yellow Submarine (Suba Films, 1969) depicting six sneezing heads in the "Foothills of the Headlands."

Yellow Submarine, based on the song by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, was written by Lee Minoff and later adapted by four other collaborators for the screen. Although initially created as an appropriate end to the band's three-film commitment with United Artists, the film is now widely regarded as a landmark in the field of animation, still charming adolescents, adults, and critics alike.

The Beatles "Yer Blues" John Lennon Annotated Lyrics

A sheet of typed lyrics to The Beatles song "Yer Blues," which appeared on the groups 1968 self-titled album (also known as the White Album), with handwritten annotations in John Lennon's hand.

Lennon has crossed out a few lyrics in black marker, including "so insecure now" in the third line of the fourth graph, and replaced it with the word "suicidal," which was an edit that appeared in the final version of the song.

"Yer Blues" was written and primarily composed by Lennon as a parody of blues music, during The Beatles' infamous 1968 retreat in Rishikesh, India. It was later recorded in EMI Studio Two's "annexe" in August of 1968.

In the book The Beatles Anthology, Lennon is quoted about the process of writing the song: "The funny thing about the [Maharishi’s] camp was that although it was very beautiful and I was meditating about eight hours a day, I was writing the most miserable songs on earth. In ‘Yer Blues,' when I wrote, ‘I’m so lonely I want to die,’ I’m not kidding. That’s how I felt."
