May in Review: ‘Music Icons,’ MOPOP, Men’s Bold Luxury & Hollywood Dominate at Julien’s
Julien's experienced a thrilling May with successful exhibitions, panel discussions, press moments and auctions, including the record-breaking 'Music Icons' event. Anticipation now turns to upcoming auctions for Princess Diana's collection, David Lynch, Men's Bold Luxury, and others.

May proved to be a whirlwind of excitement for Julien's Auctions, marked by an impressive series of exhibitions, panel discussions, and the successful culmination of another major sale. The month offered enthusiasts of music, fashion, and film a rare glimpse into iconic artifacts, setting the stage for what promises to be an equally thrilling June.
'Music Icons' Concludes with Record-Breaking Success
The month ended on a high note with Julien's prestigious "MUSIC ICONS" auction, which wrapped its two-day run on Friday, May 30th, and Saturday, May 31st, live from the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City's Times Square. This highly anticipated event, which had a preview in London earlier in the month, saw nearly 700 pieces of music history rock the auction block, striking a powerful chord with collectors and fans alike.
"Music Icons is the ultimate annual rock and roll auction event for collectors, fans and musicians alike that invites all to relive the incredible music and greatness these pieces represent," said Martin Nolan, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Julien’s Auctions. "This was a fantastic auction with big moments from Steven Tyler’s Aerosmith keyboard hitting the high notes to the last ride of the Melvins’ touring van pieces that resurfaced Kurt Cobain’s astonishing KISS band mural, adding yet another entry into the record book of legendary Kurt Cobain memorabilia sold by Julien’s."
Standout Lots and Top Sellers:
The auction also featured an unprecedented collection from music royalty including Queen, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Sting, Madonna, Johnny Cash, The Doors, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Britney Spears, The Rolling Stones, and many more, solidifying Julien’s Auctions’ position at the forefront of music memorabilia.
Princess Diana's Style Legacy Makes World Tour
Earlier in the month, innovation and a touch of royal allure converged in Seattle as the Museum of Pop Culture (MOPOP) hosted an exclusive pop-up event dedicated to Princess Diana's style legacy. Within the iconic Frank Gehry-designed walls of MOPOP, an eager audience gathered for an insightful panel discussion. The panel, led by MOPOP’s Chief Collections & Exhibitions Officer Jacob McMurray and Julien's Co-Founder and Executive Director, Martin Nolan, centered around the highly anticipated "Princess Diana's Style & A Royal Collection" pop-up. This landmark event marked the inaugural stop on a global tour, a journey that carried the indelible spirit of the People's Princess through New York City and London before culminating in a momentous auction on June 26th in Los Angeles.
Royal Collection Draws International Media Attention
Following the successful Seattle event, the "Princess Diana’s Style & A Royal Collection" continued to garner significant media attention. On Monday, as bidding officially opened for the collection, Martin Nolan joined the TODAY show for a priority exclusive, shedding light on the enduring style legacy of the People’s Princess. Later in the month, on a Wednesday, Nolan also appeared on "FOX & Friends" in New York City as the world tour stopped in the Big Apple, further discussing Lady Di's signature style. These media appearances underscored the unprecedented nature of this collection, the largest curation of Lady Di artifacts since her own charity auction in 1997.
'Men's Bold Luxury: The Tailor Made Edit' Opens Bidding
May also saw the sartorial landscape ignited with the official opening of bidding for "Men's Bold Luxury: The Tailor Made Edit." This meticulously curated collection, culminating in a live event on June 17th, transcends mere garments, offering a profound exploration of men's fashion and the enduring power of tailoring.
