Visit the exhibition for Julien's Auctions Icons: Playboy, Hugh Hefner, and Marilyn Monroe sale from Monday, March 25th through Thursday, March 28th. The exhibition showcases a stunning collection of artifacts from the early life of the legendary magazine founder to the Playboy era's heyday, direct from Hugh Hefner's Playboy Headquarters and Mansion. Together with personal property from the incandescent life of Marilyn Monroe consisting of film wardrobe, photographs, documents and ephemera, the exhibition and auction provide a glimpse into the era of outsize fame and these icons' influence on American pop culture, as well as on each other's careers.

Highlights Include

The January 1986 holiday anniversary issue of Playboy magazine that has been signed in ink by Hugh Hefner. The cover features an image of the magazine's bunny mascot that was created by Andy Warhol and there's a fascimile of Warhol's signature in the lower right.

A burgundy smoking jacket with black silk pajamas and slippers, personally owned by Hugh Hefner.

A Mae West-inspired black "cellophane effect" evening gown, worn by Marilyn Monroe during the filming of The Seven Year Itch (Twentieth Century Fox, 1955) starring Monroe and Tom Ewell.

A costume worn by Marilyn Monroe as Lillian Russell for a pictorial feature in the December 22, 1958 issue of Life magazine, photographed by Richard Avedon.

In 1944, at the age of 18, Hefner enlisted in the U.S. Army as an infantry clerk. Although he never appeared on the front lines, Hefner's service included creating cartoon illustrations for Army newspapers such as Fort Pickett News.

An original Jean-Louis painted-silk jersey cocktail dress worn by Marilyn Monroe for The Misfits (United Artists, 1961) cast press conference in the summer of 1960.
