Larry King's impact on journalism, the talk show format, and cable television is immeasurable. With a career spanning six decades, King became synonymous with insightful interviews and a distinctive, conversational style that captivated audiences worldwide. From his groundbreaking tenure as host of CNN's "Larry King Live," which propelled both King and the network to global fame, to his popular USA Today columns, his call-in radio program "The Larry King Show," and his later streaming talk show "Larry King Now," King conducted over 50,000 high-profile interviews. His guests ranged from U.S. Presidents and international celebrities to statesmen and everyday individuals, all of whom "clamored to sit across from his table."
Margaret Barrett, Vice President and Head of Hollywood Memorabilia at Julien’s Auctions, pointed out, "In the world of broadcast and cable news, there was no one bigger or better than Larry King whose legacy as one of the most formidable journalists and talk show hosts of all time is unmatched to this day."

This exceptional collection, featuring nearly 400 artifacts, offers an intimate look into King's brilliant career and personal life. Among the highlighted items are his prestigious awards, including the 1992 Peabody Award for "Larry King Live: Election Coverage 1992," where he famously interviewed Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Ross Perot. Also featured is the 1988 Cable Ace Award for "Talk Show Series / Larry King Live / CNN," one of ten Cable Ace Awards King received as host of his long-running CNN show. Other accolades include the 1994 National Broadcasters Hall of Fame Award and his Friars Club awards from 2011 and 2016.
Beyond his professional achievements, the auction delves into King's personal passions and connections. His lifelong devotion to the Los Angeles Dodgers is evident in his personal collection of Dodgers memorabilia, including signed baseballs from legends like Sandy Koufax and Tommy Lasorda, and a personalized Larry King Dodgers baseball jersey.
The collection also showcases a remarkable array of letters and personal correspondence from influential figures, highlighting the respect and admiration King commanded. These include handwritten letters from U.S. Presidents Gerald Ford, John F. Kennedy, Jr., and a typewritten letter from Donald Trump. Artwork from celebrated artists such as a signed limited edition print by Frank Sinatra, a still life painting by Tony Curtis, and a signed original drawing of Larry King by Al Hirschfeld further underscore the breadth of his connections and interests. Perhaps one of the most unique art pieces is an enormous 1990s self-portrait of King rendered in thousands of multicolored jellybeans, weighing approximately 75 pounds.
A compelling aspect of "The Larry King Collection" is the inclusion of hundreds of books from "Larry's Library" – his personal collection of texts that held deep meaning for him. Larry King, a prolific reader and one who often contributed forewords or commentary to thousands of books himself, cherished his personal library. This auction provides a rare opportunity to acquire volumes that shaped his intellectual curiosity and often served as a backdrop to his profound discussions. Among these literary treasures are a 2001 hardcover copy of "Blackbird Singing: Poems and Lyrics 1965-1999" signed by Paul McCartney, a 2000 first edition of Joyce Carol Oates' "Blonde" signed by the author, and "Elizabeth Taylor: My Love Affair with Jewelry" signed by Elizabeth Taylor herself.
Additionally, the collection features signed books from U.S. Presidents and political figures, including Jimmy Carter's "White House Diary," Bill Clinton's "My Life" and "Back to Work," and Madeleine Albright's "Madam Secretary" and Nancy Pelosi's "Know Your Power".
"This exceptional collection offers a window into his brilliance as a masterful interviewer that made everyone from Hollywood to the White House and international leaders clamor to sit across from his table," said Margaret Barrett. "We are also proud to offer his most beloved and personal treasures that reflect his generous spirit and curiosity with the world, hallmarks that earned him global admiration and respect throughout his long and influential career."
