Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) – the ultimate destination for Hollywood memorabilia auctions – will pay homage to the Hollywood cult-classic phenomenon that is celebrating its 25th anniversary, “The Big Lebowski: The Complete Storyboards Auction” on Saturday, December 16th.
The special auction event featuring over 250 items from storyboards, costumes, and more, all celebrating The Big Lebowski, will take place Day Three of the year-end auction spectacular celebrating Julien’s Auctions’ two decades as the industry’s leading Hollywood auction house. A portion of the proceeds from each lot will go to Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign. No Kid Hungry is a national campaign that is working to end childhood hunger in the United States, run by the national nonprofit organization Share Our Strength. Launched in 2010, the No Kid Hungry campaign equips schools and community organizations across the country with the technical assistance, funds and resources they need to connect kids to the food they need to thrive.
Since its world premiere at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival twenty-five years ago, the Coen Brothers’ independent film The Big Lebowski went on to become one of the world’s greatest and most enduring cult classics of all time. It is one of the most quotable and pop culture defining films from the 90s that spawned legions of pseudo religious followers of Dudeism who practice the laidback lifestyle and philosophy of the film’s hero “The Dude” played by Jeff Bridges.
The entire film’s storyboards will be up for auction, all created by J. Todd Anderson, famous for laying out the storyboards, scene by scene, for all of the Coen Brothers’ cinematic masterpieces going back to Raising Arizona. It is rare for any directors to do storyboards for every scene in the film, but that is the method created with the Coen Brothers and J. Todd Anderson. Created with brush, pencil, pen, and ink on standard bond paper.
This “end-to-end” storyboard collection auction is a first for the industry and is expected to garner significant excitement among movie fans around the world.
Jeff Bridges' “Jeffrey” The Dude ensemble - a light brown knitted fleece bathrobe and an off-white cotton Jockey T-shirt worn in The Big Lebowski, as well as his sunglasses, will also be up for auction.
Jeff Bridges also signed memorabilia such as bowling pins that he made unique doodles on as part of this special auction.
