Lot #86. Palmer // Harding | Custom Embellished Denim Jacket

The "Bold Luxury: The Limelight Edit" auction, poised to ignite the Verandah Room at The Peninsula Beverly Hills on March 27th, promises a curation of sartorial masterpieces.

Among the dazzling array, two pieces from Palmer//Harding's Pre-Spring 2025 "Honesty Opens" collection stand as beacons of contemporary design: a peplum denim jacket and wide-leg jeans, both meticulously embellished with black Swarovski crystals. These garments, direct from the designers' private collection, are much more than clothing; they are architectural expressions of emotion and testaments to the duo's revolutionary approach to pattern cutting and fabric manipulation.

Levi Palmer and Matthew Harding, the visionary minds behind Palmer//Harding, have carved a unique niche in the fashion landscape since their 2011 inception. Their ascent, punctuated by the prestigious 2017 BFC/Vogue Fashion Fund win, is a narrative of unwavering dedication to redefining the shirt, a garment they've transformed from a staple to a canvas for avant-garde exploration. Their design philosophy, rooted in architectural precision and a profound understanding of the female form, has garnered them a devoted clientele, including luminaries like Michelle Obama, Taylor Swift, and Queen Rania.

The "Honesty Opens" collection encapsulates this ethos. The peplum denim jacket, with its widespread collar and defined waist, juxtaposes structure and fluidity. The tight pleats around the waist, as the designers eloquently explain, "explode into volume above and below," symbolizing the vulnerability and intimacy that emerge from genuine connection. This poetic interpretation of garment construction elevates the jacket beyond mere fashion, transforming it into a wearable narrative.

“The idea was that sometimes we keep secrets close to us in order to protect ourselves, but that by opening up and sharing vulnerabilities we free ourselves and make space to let love in,” Palmer told Julien’s exclusively. “So we have tight pleats around the waist of each piece that has been filled in with Black crystals, which sparkle and reflect light in the same way that opening up does for those around us.”

Similarly, the wide-leg jeans, with their high waistline and inverted pleats, echo this sentiment. The 11oz true indigo denim, with its structured handle and soft dry touch, provides the perfect foundation for the sculptural pleating that defines the silhouette. The designers' intent, to represent "confessed vulnerabilities that draw the other closer," is palpable in the garment's design, a testament to their ability to infuse emotional depth into their creations.

“All of our designs start from a place of introspection, from there we journal and make verb lists that describe our emotions. We then take those verbs and drape shapes on the mannequin which we feel represent those emotions,” Palmer added. “This is always the start of our designs, we rarely use fashion reference as we believe this process makes the design more akin to fine art and collectable as it has a personal story behind each piece”

The impact of Palmer//Harding's designs extends beyond their aesthetic appeal. Their pieces are not merely trend-driven; they are investments in timeless artistry. The considered pleating, the meticulous attention to detail, and the emotional resonance embedded in each garment ensure that they transcend fleeting fashion cycles.

Palmer//Harding’s inclusion in our previous "Princess Diana & A Royal Collection" auction in 2024, where their gowns were showcased, further solidifies their status as coveted collectibles. Those who acquire a signature piece are not simply adding to their wardrobe; they are acquiring a fragment of contemporary fashion history, a testament to the power of design to evoke emotion and tell a story.

For collectors, the "Honesty Opens" jacket and jeans represent a rare opportunity to own pieces from the designers' private collection, imbued with the intrinsic value of provenance. The Swarovski embellishments, meticulously applied, add a touch of opulent glamour, elevating the denim to a level of haute couture. The cropped hemline of the jacket, designed to lengthen the legs, and the flared collar, framing the face with regal elegance, speak to the designers' understanding of how to enhance the wearer's natural beauty.

In a world saturated with ever-changing trends, Palmer//Harding's designs stand as a demonstration to the enduring power of craftsmanship and emotional resonance. The "Honesty Opens" collection, with its sculptural silhouettes and profound symbolism, is a masterclass in contemporary design. Acquiring these pieces is an investment in a legacy of innovation and artistry, and a nod to a true connection to the visionary minds that are shaping the future of fashion.

Register and bid now to secure your place in this exclusive auction and claim a piece of Palmer//Harding's revolutionary vision for your own collection. This opportunity to own a fragment of their private collection is a moment to seize.
