For Immediate Release:
Ann Miller's extraordinary collection spans sixty years and includes some of the finest examples of costume jewelry produced in the 20th century. On June 4, 2005 the jewelry will be offered for sale by Harrice Simons Miller, renowned costume jewelry expert, historian, author and dealer, at a live and online auction conducted by Julien's Auctions (juliensauctions.com). Auction is to be held at the Los Angeles showroom of national interior and furnishing designer Barclay Butera. Over 350 pieces of specially selected jewelry will be offered for sale, each with an individualized Certificate of Authenticity.
Legendary star of Hollywood and Broadway, actress, singer and dancer Ann Miller's career spanned fifty years. She starred in more than 40 Hollywood films, including "On the Town", "Easter Parade" and "Kiss Me Kate". She continued dancing into her 60s with the stage hits "Mame", "Follies" and "Sugar Babies" co-starring Mickey Rooney. She received numerous accolades ranging from the Best Legs Award to many Life Time Achievement Awards.
Ann Miller was a passionate collector of important costume jewelry until her death in 2004 at the age of 81. Her interest in wearing glamorous pieces led her to the finest American and European designers including Kenneth Jay Lane, Ciner, Donald Stannard, Boucher, Trifari, Miriam Haskell, Chanel, Dior and Balenciaga. Swarovski crystals are featured prominently throughout her vast collection.
It is significant and fitting that the celebrity's personal jewelry collection should now be made available by Harrice Simons Miller. As one of the country's foremost experts on costume jewelry, Ms. Miller, who pioneered the costume jewelry market for Christie's international auction house, shares the dancer's appreciation for hiqh quality and well-designed pieces. "Ann Miller was bigger than life," Harrice Simons Miller said, "with her 500 taps per minute, her dazzling smile and those gorgeous gams — her costume jewelry collection was every bit as extraordinary as she was."
Now with the fashion world's renewed interest in the glamour and fantasy of vintage costume jewelry, the timing of the auction will undoubtedly make it the major costume jewelry sale of the year. The Ann Miller auction items will be on public display at Barclay Butera, Inc. in Los Angeles, CA from May 31st thru June 3rd, 2005. "We are proud to host the Ann Miller Auction at our Los Angeles location. My showroom and lifestyle approach fit beautifully with the timeless elegance of the collection. I am very inspired by the Hollywood Regency era, of which Ms. Miller was such a significant part," said President/CEO Barclay Butera.
The auction will be conducted live Saturday, June 4th at 9 a.m. PST, at Barclay Butera, 169 N. La Brea Avenue, and online at juliensauctions.com.
