A piece of punk rock history is about to be etched onto the blockchain. An NFT of Steve Jones' legendary 1974 Gibson Les Paul Custom electric guitar, serial #145418, is set to be released as a digital asset to one lucky bidder in Music Icons. This is the very instrument that powered the Sex Pistols' rebellious anthems, a guitar whose battle scars bear witness to a tumultuous era in music history.

This unique digital asset showcases the guitar from every angle, accompanied by a voiceover from British guitarist Billy Morrison. The NFT captures the instrument's "tan lines" from pinup girl decals, the cigarette smoke-yellowed finish, and the numerous breaks and repairs that are testament to its storied past. It's a virtual time capsule, preserving the essence of a punk rock relic for future generations.

"For me, there's no more important, iconic guitar in the history of punk rock than this guitar," says Morrison in the NFT's narration. "The guitar that created EMI, God Save the Queen, Anarchy in the UK, No Feelings... Important instruments like this carry on and their lineage is respected and revered and talked about; it should be passed down to future generations because this is the Holy Grail of punk rock guitars."

The NFT, minted on the Ethereum blockchain, represents a unique opportunity for fans and collectors to own a piece of musical history. While the physical guitar remains a tangible artifact, this digital representation ensures that its legacy will endure in the digital age.

Julien’s included an NFT in the sale of a mechatronic E.T. character skeleton from the production of the iconic Steven Spielberg film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (Universal Pictures, 1982) in December 2022.

In our 2023 Music Icons auction, we also sold a limited-edition 2015 Moog EMMS synthesizer commemorating the original early 1970s version used by Keith Emerson, with the exclusive NFT including a video of Keith Emerson signing a studio-played EMMS Moog system.
