Hollywood I CONS & I DOLS: 294 1125 “STARWARS: EPISODE I - THE PHANTOMMENACE” LIAM NEESON “QUI-GON JINN” STUNT LIGHTSABER (WITH DVD) LiamNeeson’s lightsaber made for his character, Qui-Gon Jinn, from Star Wars: Episode I - The Phanton Menace (20th Century Fox, 1999). The stunt style of lightsaber features the green blade used in stunt and fi ghting sequences to later be replaced with post production special effects. The lightsaber hilt is made of resin with painted details. A long green painted aluminum rob is attached to the hilt. The hollow aluminum blade is a rod that was drilled and threaded near the emitter of the hilt so that it could be tightened onto the rod that protrudes from the end of the hilt. As blades were damaged during fi lming, this would allow them to be replaced while using the same resin hilt. Stunt sabers were cast in resin to create a lightweight prop to be used by the actors and stuntmen for ease of use and to mitigate the risk of injury. Doug Chiang created many unique lightsaber designs for the fi lm and Liam Neeson chose this particular design for his character. In the fi lm, Qui-Gon brie fl y battles Darth Maul on Tatooine as well as at Naboo’s Theed Palace. In the climatic battle at the end of the fi lm, Qui-Gon faces Darth Maul again and is struck down by him and subsequently Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) takes Qui-Gon’s lightsaber and used it to avenge his master and cuts Maul in half. Accompanied by a DVD of the fi lm. 48.5 inches long (hilt is 11 inches and blade is 37.5 inches) $20,000-40,000
