258 ICONS & IDOLS: ROCK ‘N’ ROLL 504 ELVIS PRESLEY 1974 MERCEDES-BENZ 450 SLC COUPE • ° Mercedes-Benz manufactured this grand tourer from 1972 until 1980. This 450 SLC features a water- cooled 4.5 liter V-8 engine producing 190 horsepower and 240 pounds-feet of torque, a 3-speed automatic transmission, tachometer, Bosch D Jetronic fuel injection system, cruise control, double wishbone front and rear suspension, front and rear disc brakes, rear wheel drive, and steel unibody construction. Creature comforts include a quartz clock, AM/FM radio with automatic antenna, air conditioning, optional velour upholstery, power windows, adjustable front seats, optional sliding metal sunroof, and matching Icon Gold hubcaps. Only the King of Rock 'n' Roll would drive around in an Icon Gold Mercedes when he wanted to be “incognito.” This one was often parked in the back of Graceland, available to Elvis Presley whenever he wanted to sneak around town.
