Beverly Hills, California – January 5, 2014 – Julien’s Auctions, the world’s premier entertainment celebrity memorabilia auction house, held its inaugural “Street Art” auction in December 2013. The live event took place to a packed room at the Beverly Hills gallery, and was simultaneously streamed online to a worldwide audience. The sale featured a number of original works by renowned artists including Shepard Fairey, Banksy, Risk, Mear One and many more. One of the many highlights included a large scale brick wall mural created by Banksy in 2008. Artwork created for the iconic LA street-wear brand “Conart” was offered for sale with strong interest shown by emerging Street Art collectors. The sale was comprised of over ninety lots, representing over 30 individual artists, and generated well over half a million dollars.
The media coverage was of global proportions including Associated Press, Reuters, BBC and numerous national and local news reports. In total over 1,000 individual stories were published from a variety of media outlets covering over 55 countries.
Julien’s Auctions will produce its second “Street Art” auction, slated to take place in Spring 2014, and has already secured a number of significant works. The auction house is also welcoming additional Street Art consignments.
