The auction featured exceptional screen worn wardrobes, props, photographs, jewelry and celebrity owned items.
The Green Hornet and his trusty sidekick Kato cruised the streets of Los Angeles in a tricked out 1965 Imperial Crown nicknamed Black Beauty. In the 2011 production of The Green Hornet, Columbia pictures built and destroyed a number of these cars during production. Julien’s Auctions presented the one vehicle to survive intact which sold for $46,875. A Claudette Colbert Cleopatra cape sold for $5,625, the Wizard of Oz Munchkins Flower Pot hat sold for $15,000, Frank Sinatra’s original signed abstract painting sold for $21,250, while his former love Mia Farrow’s owned Salvador Dali signed book sold for $6,875 and the Grace Kelly Helen Rose Wedding gown sketch sold for $8,125. A Christopher Reeve Superman IV flying suit sold for $25,000.
An extraordinary offering of items from screen goddess Marilyn Monroe served as one of the many highlights of the highly anticipated events. The film legend’s nightshirt sold for $15,000, Marilyn Monroe negatives with copyright sold for $7,000 and her bra from the “Some Like It Hot” gown sold for $28,125. A Marilyn Monroe signed check sold for $3,437.50, a Marilyn Monroe personally owned cocktail dress sold for $25,000 and a pair of Marilyn Monroe owned Capo di Monte cups and saucers sold for $17,500.
