Julien’s Auctions is proud to present our annual Hollywood Legends 2015 auction featuring hundreds of items from Hollywood’s leading ladies and men including: Marilyn Monroe, Barbra Streisand, Jane Russell, Esther Williams, Julianne Moore, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Clarke Gable, Liam Neeson, Leonard Nimoy, Hedy Lamarr, John Wayne, and many more!
Included is a very significant dress worn by screen icon Marilyn Monroe in her final film Something’s Gotta Give (20th Century, 1962). The figure hugging silk crepe dress is printed with scattered painterly roses in shades of persimmon and deep cherry with a plunging V back. The interior of the studio constructed dress has hand finished details, is lined with ivory soufflé and has boning to the waistline. Jean Louis was the costume designer on the film. Monroe wore this dress when her character, who had been proclaimed dead but returns from being stranded on an island for five years, is introduced in the film and reunited with her children who do not realize she is their mother. Monroe was fired from the film and when the studio tried to replace her with Lee Remick, the film’s leading man Dean Martin refused to finish the film without Monroe. Her untimely death came less than a month after being let go from the production. The dress can be seen in numerous newspaper articles announcing her death.
Other highlights chronicling the personal life and career of the world’s most intriguing screen icon include: a Marilyn Monroe black velvet bustier, a black silk underskirt from the Estate of Marilyn Monroe, Monroe’s personal copy of behind-the-scenes footage of The Misfits, Monroe’s Frankie and Johnny script, a 1961 black and white photograph of Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable on the set of The Misfits, a Monroe side view X-ray from her visit to the hospital for her chronic endometriosis, a Marilyn Monroe grave marker, and a Monroe cosmetic jar.
Highlights of Hollywood’s Legends include a vast array of memorabilia from leading ladies and men from Hollywood yesteryear to today’s blockbuster films. These include: Michelle Pfeiffer’s Grease 2 jacket, a Hugh Jackman X-Men dog tag, a Mia Farrow Rosemary’s Baby ensemble, The Ten Commandments leg cuffs props, Doris Day It’s A Great Day gown, extremely rare Star Trek tunics, several Gone With the Wind scene stills, Greta Garbo’s Louis Vuitton silk scarf and handbag, a Barbra Streisand worn ensemble, and James Dean abstract painting circa 1954.
Also included in this spectacular collection are three memorable Hollywood automobiles. The first is a 1969 orange Dodge Charger built and previously owned by John Schneider who plays Bo Duke in The Dukes of Hazzard (CBS, 1979-1985). The coupe has “01” painted on the doors and “Bo’s General Lee” on each side above the windows.
The second is a 1949 Mercury Series 9CM Custom Convertible featured throughout the motion picture musical Grease (Paramount, 1978). Nicknamed “Hell’s Chariot,” the Merc was originally built and customized by Eddie Paul of Customs by Eddie Paul to create the Scorpions gang’s signature convertible.
And finally, the third vehicle is a KITT car from the classic television show Knightrider. This American classic is a 1982 Pontiac Trans-Am nicknamed KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand). This is one if not the only surviving KITT car used in the TV series.
